High voter turnout for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council nomination exercise 2016

Instinctif Partners had been appointed by the Home Affairs Bureau as the Nomination Agent for the Nomination Exercise of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. Under the coordination of Instinctif Partners, the polling was held on 27 and 28 November 2016. Upon completion of poll at 10pm on 28 November, ballots were immediately counted. Of the 5,863 registered voters, 2,456 turned out to vote for their representatives in the six contested arts interests. The voter turnout rate was 41.9%, representing an 8% increase over the figure in the previous exercise.

 

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) is a statutory body set up to promote the development of arts in Hong Kong. The poll is to nominate representatives to be submitted to the Chief Executive for consideration of appointment to the HKADC for the next term commencing January 1, 2017. HKADC members will assist the Council in planning, promoting and supporting the development of the arts in Hong Kong.


As the Nomination Exercise grew intense, the election result was greatly anticipated by Hong Kong media. Candidates and reporters attended the ballot paper counting process and live streaming was provided by some media so that citizens could follow nomination exercise results closely.


The new session of HKADC members was elected. Musician Chow Pok Yin successfully challenged the 20-year music representative Barbara Fei and theater director Lee Chun Leung defeated actor Wong Chau Sang, Anthony. Writer Chan Wai yee got the highest vote in the nomination exercise.
